I didn’t post an update last week, so I’ll try to remember what I did and include it here.
Still reading perfbook. At least now I’m past the midway point.
I tried cross-compiling userland for my ROCKPro64 and wrote a little post about that and the problems I encountered in the process.
I’ve also updated CSS for code snippets so hopefully they should look better now.
Current streak on Duolingo: 54 days.
I started going through a vulkan tutorial. Nothing too compilcated so far, but I’m not sure I’m a fan of how this tutorial is structured. But whatever, I started it, so I should finish it.
Finally got some time for Charles Platt’s “Make: Electronics”. I went through a couple of experiments, it was pretty fun.
It feels like I’m starting to lose interest in all these talks. Whenever I start watching something, I get the feeling that there’s nothing in it for me. I should be pickier when adding things to “watch later” but sadly it’s hard to tell immediately whether a given talk is worthwhile. In any case, here are the talks that I liked:
Getting pixels on screen on Linux: introduction to Kernel Mode Setting - Simon Ser. An introduction to KMS, where the author walks you through the code that lets you, as promised in the title, get some pixels on the screen. This talk presents a lot of core concepts, but I’m sure there’s still much more to learn. At this point, it’s probably worth it to start reading the documentation.
Threads in Embedded Linux- 6 Easy Pieces - Loïc Domaigné, Doulos. I’m not sure why this talk’s name has “Embedded Linux” in it, but maybe I’m missing something. Also an introductory talk, this time to a subject I’m quite familiar with. It was pretty entertaining and provided interesting technical details, so definitely give it a watch if you’re starting out with parallel programming.
Crazy
Could’ve done more in two weeks.
